Our priority areas

At the heart of the public health challenges of today and tomorrow

Health remains a major challenge for society, and medical research is having to face up to new challenges that are emerging all over the world: the increase in environmentally-related diseases, the ageing of the population, the issue of dependency, and so on.

In response to these new challenges, the Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale has decided to increase the impact of its support for research by identifying four priority areas of funding.

Fertility and reproductive health

1 in 6 adults worldwide is affected by infertility, motivating our support for research into its causes and treatments.

Our objectives: we are committed to supporting fundamental, translational, and clinical research in the fields of reproduction and fertility, with the aim of understanding causes, developing treatments, and preserving fertility.

Brain health and mental health

Since 2019, we have supported neurodegenerative research and are expanding to brain and mental health.

Our objectives: to gain a better understanding of how the brain functions and develops over time, as well as the biological, social, and environmental factors that influence brain health and the onset of disorders and diseases throughout life.

Chronic inflammatory diseases

These diseases cause 3 in 5 deaths worldwide, driving our commitment to inflammation research for prevention and treatment.

Our objectives: to gain a better understanding of inflammatory mechanisms, particularly at the molecular and cellular levels, in order to foster new therapeutic approaches and improve patient care.

Environmental impacts on health

Since 2019, we have supported research on how pollution and climate change affect human health.

Our objectives: to understand how environmental agents act, alone or in combination, in pathological processes, and to analyze the economic, social, and political determinants underlying exposures.
